Mum sets self on fire over recalcitrant teen


NIBONG TEBAL: A 33-year-old mother suffered burns after allegedly setting herself on fire in an incident in Jalan Hutan Lipur here.

The mother of seven did so allegedly due to disappointment over the attitude of one of her daughters, police said.

Seberang Perai Selatan OCPD Supt Shafien Mamat said in the incident which occurred at 12.40am yesterday, the victim was advising her 15-year-old daughter, who was said to be seldom home.

The mother suddenly bolted out of the house, poured petrol on her body before lighting up a candle and setting herself on fire, he said.

“She told police that she was under pressure when dealing with her daughter,” he told a news conference yesterday.

Other members of the family, including her husband, came to her rescue.

The victim suffered 54% burns from the forehead to the abdomen and has been referred to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star. — Bernama

Finn woke me up this morning instead of me doing so for him. He has been waking up feeling lousy and would whine non stop during school days..he would not stop until I started scolding him. Chinese New Year Reunion !

Chinese New Year is another 5 days away! Yea!!! I can't wait to be home. Look at the photos above. ALL the dishes were cook by mum with all her heart. Really misses her cooking! Mini Lobsters I ate in Shanghai!

My job required me to travel very frequently to Shanghai last year. Somewhere during the 2nd half of the year, mini lobster has become our favorite. We will walk all the way to the stores and order few kilos of the fried mini lobsters each time. Recently, I received an email from a friend of mine reminding the danger of eating this mini creature! Please be alert of this food item... It may infect your lung. Do not eat these mini lobsters.These mini crustaceans are literally the garbage cleaners in the sewage treatment plants.
